Lucie Savard, Cr. T. Founder info@kindtranslators.com Specialized in securities and working as a translator/editor for a law firm, Lucie dedicates numerous hours each week to translating and editing texts, managing the website, coordinating work, and communicating with organizations. Among the many translations she completed in 2006 for various organizations, the largest projects included the English-to-French translation of part of the website http://www.humanefood.ca, created by the Canadian Coalition for Farm Animals, and the integration of other languages, in particular Japanese and Russian, into the services offered by the company. The Extracts page, which is continually being developed, offers a good preview of the languages the company handles. The major projects in 2007, in addition to numerous translation requests from all over the world, include translating and editing the Global Action Network website and setting up other sites in French. Other work was or is being completed for PETA, Global Action Network, The European Vegetarian Union, AHIMSA, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, One Voice, Animal Watch Manitoba, Zoocheck, the HSUS, and several other organizations, associations or websites which we strongly encourage you to visit. “It is with great enthusiasm that we collaborate with animal protection organizations and people who devote their lives to getting their rights recognized and help get their message across. We certainly suspect that there is a price to pay for our comfort, food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical products as well as our clothing and leisure activities, and one of these prices is animal suffering. While some believe it is unavoidable, the current situation can no longer be justified and humane solutions and consumer behaviors that can really change things do exist. We want people to know how animals are treated and with that knowledge, each individual will, in his own way, do what he believes is best. We believe that human beings can resolve these issues with intelligence and compassion.”

Hélène Dansereau Translator info@kindtranslators.com After decades doing technical work for the stage with a sideline in photography, Hélène, guided by her love of language, chose a new career in translation. Concerned by human problems, she decided to use her translation skills to help make a difference. Her volunteer translation work speaks for itself: aside from her regular translations for Kind Translators and for Habitat for Humanity Canada, she has done volunteer work for The Alzheimer Group Inc. and Clowns Without Borders. A prolific collaborator, Hélène has translated several information sheets for the French version of the http://www.humanefood.ca website produced by the Canadian Coalition for Farm Animals, as well as many other documents, including "A Sunless Hell" and "End the Rough Ride for Farm Animals", as well as the the report "Sow Stalls and Their Effects on Sow Welfare in Canada". Hélène also translated documents for the Global Action Network, a Veganimal website interview with Mike Huskisson, activist for the British organization Hunt Saboteurs, and documents for AHIMSA, the The European Vegetarian Union, and the HSUS. Hélène was also involved in the translation and revision of a report for One Voice. "By translating texts on animal cruelty, I knew full well that I'd be faced with realities I had been happy to ignore. But I knew it was time for me to learn what the world I live in is really like." Céline Danis Translator info@kindtranslators.com Having formerly worked in the fields of printing and computer graphics, Céline changed the direction of her career to focus on translation. With a BA in translation, she enjoys working in this field because it allows her to learn new things on a daily basis. Even before joining the Kind Translators team, Céline was already a supporter of animal welfare, and as she learned more about the inhumane conditions in which many livestock are raised, her resolve to make a difference was further strengthened. Céline has translated an information sheet entitled Farmed Fish, as well as numerous documents found on the Canadian Coalition for Farm Animals website http://www.humanefood.ca, including The Slaughterhouse Story Hasn't Changed in 100 Years, Fatigued Pigs: The Transportation Link, and Avian Flu Slaughter Inhumane Again. “In my own way, I try to respect the close link between me and my environment. Choosing my foods carefully is something that is very important to me. I therefore support small local producers who care about the ecological viability of their farms and who treat their animals with respect. Hélène Defossez Translator info@kindtranslators.com Hélène a vécu un an aux États-Unis et a enseigné l'anglais dans des écoles primaires pendant deux ans. Elle est titulaire d'une Licence LLCE Anglais. Elle étudie également la musique et écrit. Aujourd'hui encore étudiante, elle consacre ses vacances aux animaux à travers l'écovolontariat, activité qui lui permet d'allier deux de ses passions : les animaux et les voyages. Marina Tikhvinskaya Translator info@kindtranslators.com Originally from Russia, Marina Tikhvinskaya - http://www.marina-link.fr - is a Paris-based translator and interpreter who has studied in both Russia and France and holds a degree in theoretical and applied linguistics. Marina translates into Russian, French, English and Italian. Formerly a member of the animal rights organization One Voice, Marina devotes time to various activities that promote animal welfare in France and Russia. A growing awareness of the problem of cruelty towards animals, and of the need to find solutions, led Marina to join the Kind Translators team. Julie Plovnick, C. Tr. Translator/revisor info@kindtranslators.com Julie works full time for a small translation company in Quebec City. She telecommutes daily from her home office in Vermont, USA. Since 2000, she has provided volunteer translation for animal protection and animal rights organizations including Clan des loups d'Amérique du nord in Quebec and Agir pour les Animaux in France. She is a member of Green Mountain Animal Defenders based in Burlington, Vermont. Marie-Andrée Blackburn, C. Tr. Daniel Lapointe, B. Trans. Translators info@kindtranslators.com Marie-Andrée and Daniel have worked in translation for more than 20 years and are the owners of Traductions InteRmed Inc., a translation firm they opened in July 1998 which employs five people and over twenty freelancers. The parents of two children, Étienne and Laurence, this couple intends to contribute to the work of Kind Translators by translating articles and revising each other's texts. Marie-Andrée, who adores animals of every shape and size, from tiny lizards to the big cats, wants to actively denounce cruelty to animals and believes that disseminating articles and announcements in a language other than English will help to promote awareness among a wider audience. She translated, from English to French, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society articles Captain Paul Watson Responds to the Labradorian and Captain Paul Watson Responds to Japanese Senior Consul General Makoto Hinei, as well as an interview with Joan Dunoyer titled Animal Equality: Language and Liberation, for AHIMSA; her translations were revised by Daniel. Pierrette LeBlanc, C. Tran. Translator info@kindtranslators.com A nurse by training, Pierrette later turned to translation motivated by her love of and respect for the French language. She is a supporter of two branches of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals – a local branch and one in Montreal. Pierrette adheres to the principles of the Canadian Wildlife Federation, following their guidelines for developing backyard habitats to provide birds with food, shelter and protection from predators. While living in Florida, she was already a member of PETA. Pierrette translated the article Why a Boycott of Canadian Seafood Products? for the Animal Alliance of Canada, as well as a text on armadillos for Global Action Network. While living Florida, she became acquainted with armadillos when one took up residence under her house… and it took several attempts to humanely dislodge him from his burrow! More recently, Pierrette translated another text for GAN entitled Tuberculosis in Elephants. As an English-to-French freelance translator, Pierrette specializes in the fields of health sciences, pleasure boating, horticulture, tourism, security and protective services, construction, and government contracts. Françoise Degenne Translator info@kindtranslators.com Françoise Degenne is freelance translator who has been working out of her home in the Touraine region of France since 1986. A vegetarian for several years and a member of the Association Végétarienne de France, Françoise contributes to the sections on Recettes and Délices d'initiés in the Alliance Végétarienne magazine. She has also begun organizing monthly vegetarian dinners in her town as a way of allowing vegetarians to get together, as well as giving non-vegetarians an opportunity to learn about the health, environmental and animal welfare benefits that vegetarianism can offer. Françoise has translated the following texts: The Truth about Japanese Traditional Whaling by Paul Watson, of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Canada ignoring suffering of animals bound for Hawaii and a factsheet on foie gras for the Canadian Coalition for Farm Animals. Claudine Chausson Translator info@kindtranslators.ca Claudine Chausson works as a technical writer for a computer software publisher. With a degree in English language and civilization as well as a Masters in Technical Translation (French/English/Spanish), she also does some translation out of personal interest. Working with Kind Translators has given her the opportunity to use her skills to champion animal welfare, which is a cause that she has long supported through her vegetarian lifestyle and her participation in associations that are dedicated to the defense and protection of nature and animals. Through these efforts, Claudine hopes to raise public awareness and thus contribute to improved animal well-being. Claudine spent three weeks in Thailand to work as a volunteer in a wild life protection center. Zhanna Gizatulina Translator A French and English teacher by training, Zhanna is excited about these two languages and dedicates her free time to improving her skills, particularly by translating a variety of texts from English and French into Russian, and vice versa. Her eclectic interests range from Middle Eastern dance (belly dancing) to animal welfare. Zhanna believes that nothing exists outside others (in and of themselves); everything is closely bound as though the earth were a single unified body. What we do to others, we do to ourselves. Imagine you have a wound on your little finger. It is small but it hurts you because the finger is part of your body. To live in perfect harmony on earth, we must think like this—it's our duty. Ekaterina and Natalya Loban Translator/revisor, Russian info@kindtranslators.com Ekaterina and Natalya Loban are two sisters who are passionate about improving the lives of all animals. Separated by distance, with Ekaterina living in Canada and Natalya in Russia, they work as a unified team complementing each other's strengths and building on the endeavors of their animal-loving parents. The sisters combine extensive expertise in diverse areas. Both of them hold Masters degrees, Ekaterina in Organization Development and Natalya in Economics. Ekaterina is currently a Special Projects Officer in the Office of the Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations) at McGill University with prior McGill experience as a Project Manager working on a series of international development projects. Her past engagements include working for the Regents Business School and the National Centre for Volunteering in London, UK, as well as volunteering for a number of organizations in both England and Canada. Working as a translator during the Expedition to the North Pole was perhaps her most thrilling assignment. Natalya, on the other hand, brings outstanding expertise from the private sector and the in-depth knowledge of animal issues in Russia's North. Having held a number of decision-making positions at large Russian banks, she is now co-managing a small family business with her husband. Both sisters have travelled extensively across the world and have witnessed some of the appalling instances of animal mistreatment which has fuelled their desire to bring about change.

Susan Spier Translator info@kindtranslators.com Always fascinated by languages, Susan's passion for music won out and led to her first career as a violinist, music educator and researcher. After accomplishing many of her musical goals, she decided to shift her focus, and currently balances her time between these two major interests. She holds an Honours BA in translation in addition to numerous degrees in music and business. Susan enjoys translating, as it offers exposure to a such a wide range of subjects and colleagues, unlimited by geographical boundaries. She joined Kind Translators in 2007, and has translated articles on Circus Animals, trapping and Vivesection. She believes in respecting our resources and the environment, and is happy to have the opportunity to make this contribution to the cause of animal rights.
